Not happy with service on Maggie

Just recently I had 3 relatives arrive in Townsville to savor our Northern Hospitality, I suggested they visit Maggie for the day, the girls sounded quite excited about going there as they had heard how nice it was. At lunch time (for tourist) 1pm, they went looking for food, the first cafe they walked into they heard from someone in the back 'hey hey...we're closed, go elsewhere' they asked why so early, the reply 'well if ya can't eat before 12:30 you can go without' The second place they went to was open, so they stood at the counter for 5 minutes (no one came to the counter) they said 'hello, is anyone there?' the reply came from a gent sitting down eating, 'you'll have to wait till I've finished my meal, have a seat' they looked at each other and decided to look elsewhere, when leaving they noticed a sign on the back wall 'if you want fast service for fast food, go back to the mainland' they laughed and left. The good news is they did find a nice place to eat and enjoyed the rest of the day. To the other outlets...may I suggest you change trades...brick laying or something where you don't have to serve the public. Our tourism is very important to our children...(sorry brickies).

Maggie Isle - Expensive & slow

Visited my elderly parents on Magnetic Island (housesitting for a relative) decided to take them for a drive. We stopped to have a drink at the pub at Arcadia. My father, who does not drink or eat out much, insisted on paying. 2 beers + s'drink + lemon lime & bitter later cost $17.20. Needless to say it will be the topic of cenversation for quite some time. Also same place same time ordered a burger for my son & 45 minutes later after checking found that the order had slipped down and had been missed. Come on guys, the best advertising is by word of mouth. Keep your clients happy.

$17.20

For the drinks that you (Lebur) ordered, $17.20 is pretty much standard. If you want to see expensive drink prices, visit The Bank on a Saturday night!

C'mon Maggie

God, that's awful that you received such bad service on Maggie Island. Not so long ago, they were complaining about losing business because of a rogue crocodile! Funny, I don't recall ever seeing a crocodile try to buy lunch at any of their cafe's. C'mon Maggie Island businesses - you've got a really special place & people are always going to want to visit it, especially overseas travellers. I operate a motel on the mainland & always recommend to our guests a visit to the island. Don't make it a disappointment for them!

20 minutes by ferry, 20 years ago with level of service!

Oh yeah, i agree. It is embarrasing! Try getting dinner there on a Friday or Saturday night after 7pm - it just doesn't happen! We stayed for the weekend with friends visiting from Sydney and they could not believe it when we had to settle for pizza for dinner (and we were lucky to get that!)

Other than the Barefoot Gallery (which is great as a treat but not for the whole time you are there) the options are so limited.

It's like we're intruding on 'their' island and inconveniencing them by SPENDING money!!! Get with the program, Maggie!
